Schiebel showcased upgraded versions of its S-100 and S-300 Camcopter rotary-winged unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), designated S-101 and S-301 respectively, at the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2025 exhibition in London.
Described by the Austrian manufacturer as “next generation”, the S-101 and S-301 have been designed to military specifications as opposed to being adapted to the military mission, as was the case with the earlier S-100 and S-300.
“We have formed Schiebel Defence, which is focusing on the weaponisation [of the Camcopter],” a company representative told Janes at DSEI on 9 September, adding, “There is a lot of interest in Europe in this type of capability, and while we are still in discussions with some of our [weapons] suppliers, it is available to customers today.”
With the S-100 and its larger S-300 stablemate in service with armed forces around the world, the S-101 and S-301 are geared at affording the Camcopter with an artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled precision-strike capability, “with a focus on integrating already in-service missiles and rockets well suited to tactical rotary platforms that will provide a persistent and distributed lethality option against asymmetric threats allowing engagement at stand-off ranges”.
