Spanish company Indra revealed its Valero unmanned airborne weapon system at the International Defence and Security Exhibition (FEINDEF) 2025 held in Madrid from 12 to 14 May.

The Valero is built around a new multi-purpose air vehicle (MAV) capable of delivering modular payloads using a variety of flight profiles. As well as the MAV, the system comprises configurable ground launchers (although the MAV can be air-launched as well), a containerised command-and-control (C2) module, and related support equipment.

According to Indra, it is Valero's inherent modularity that affords it the flexibility to perform throughout the range of operating profiles. The MAV can be deployed as either an expendable or an optionally recoverable platform depending on requirements, highlighting its potential as both a single-use weapon or a reusable payload delivery platform.

Although Indra has not yet unveiled payloads for Valero, the MAV could provide an attritable delivery mechanism for electronic warfare (EW) systems; decoys; explosive or kinetic effectors; and even intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) modules.

Indra has completed the operational conceptualisation, architecture definition, and systems engineering stages of development, with the company now undertaking the prototype design and demonstration process.
