Further details of Gilat Satellite Networks' deal with Israeli MoD confirmed

Israel-based Gilat Satellite Networks sold “ground segment” systems to Israel's Ministry of Defense (MoD) as part of a more than USD8 million contract, a company representative confirmed to Janes on 30 July.
The contract includes the deployment of satellite communications (satcom) systems, which have been tailored as per the Israel Defense Forces' (IDF's) operational requirements, according to Gilat's 29 July press release. The systems are expected to be delivered in the next 12 months.
The ground equipment can operate with a satellite constellation in geostationary orbit (GEO), medium Earth orbit (MEO), or low Earth orbit (LEO), the representative said, adding the agreement does not include any satellites.
The announcement comes after Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) said it launched the national communications satellite Dror-1 aboard a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Florida on 13 July. According to IAI, the GEO Dror-1 satellite is for defence and commercial purposes and is based on IAI's Amos 4000 platform. Dror-1 is designed to provide communications capabilities to Israel for the next 15 years, according to the company.
The Gilat representative declined to comment on whether the company's ground equipment, which was included in the deal with the Israeli MoD, is compatible with the Dror-1 satellite.
