Türkiye's Secretariat of Defence Industries (Savunma Sanayii Başkanlığı: SSB) announced on 15 August that it had conducted a test to intercept an aerial target with the Roketsan Hisar-D naval air-defence missile system.
The test was conducted aboard the Turkish Navy's TCG İstanbul (F-515), the first Istanbul-class (also known as I-class) frigate, off Sinop in the Black Sea. According to Aselsan, the engagement began with target detection by the CENK 400-N active electronically scanned array (AESA) 4D search radar and track handover to the AKREP 300-N fire-control radar.
Fired from a Roketsan 16-cell Midlas vertical launch system (VLS), the Hisar-D Fire Control System then executed mid-course guidance using the GÜDÜ 200-MG ship-to-missile datalink, supported by a missile-borne datalink, before terminal-phase interception with Aselsan's Agras radio frequency (RF) seeker.
The Hisar-D programme is managed by Türkiye's SSB with Roketsan responsible for missile development and Aselsan for sensors, fire control, and datalinks. Serial production is expected to follow further qualification firings in 2025, with installation planned across the Istanbul-class frigates and the future TF-2000 air-defence destroyers.
According to Aselsan, the systems worked in co-ordination to detect, track, and guide the missile towards the target under maritime conditions.
The Hisar-D radar-guided missile is a naval version of the Hisar-O air-defence missile being developed for the Turkish Land Forces. The imaging infrared seeker of the original missile was replaced with an RF seeker for the naval version. The missile has a dual-pulse engine with an approximate range of 25 km.
Alpagut
On 7 August, Roketsan and STM announced they had successfully launched the Alpagut loitering munition from a Baykar Bayraktar Akinci unmanned aircraft system (UAS).
