Lithuania's Granta Autonomy is expecting to deliver the first batch of X-Wing loitering munition systems to the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) before the end of 2025, pending approval from the Lithuanian Ministry of National Defence, Gediminas Guoba, CEO and founder of Granta Autonomy, told Janes on 19 November.

Hundreds of the X-Wing systems are expected to be delivered. “Maybe with the first batch, we will do some of the final assembly in Ukraine,” Guoba said. He went on to add that the company has invested in Ukraine through its local facility and by employing Ukrainian engineers. “They have a lot of experience and know the battlefield. They also have a very broad network of connections and can collect feedback and iterate [the technology] much faster,” Guoba added.

The X-Wing system, relatively new to the Granta Autonomy portfolio, was first tested with the AFU in Ukraine in April. Since then, the system has undergone testing in Ukraine, including in electronic warfare (EW) conditions, according to Guoba.

Most of the updates to the system, prompted by feedback from the AFU, relate to its reliability. One recent update included an increase to its hit rate and an update to the camera. “We have specifically designed a new gimbal [system for the] camera for the X-Wing. Initially, we were thinking about using fixed cameras. Later, we found out that if you want to reach targets that are 60 km away, you'll need to find the target, lock on it, then get to it, and that can be complicated if you use fixed cameras,” Guoba said.
