Granta Autonomy unveils X-Wing loitering munition system

Lithuanian Granta Autonomy has unveiled its X-Wing loitering munition system for precision strike missions, the company said in an 18 September press release.

The X-Wing is a combination of a vertical take-off and landing (VTOL) system and a fixed-wing unmanned aircraft system (UAS). “It doesn't need any infrastructure for launch and multiple systems can be launched at the same time,” Granta CEO Gediminas Guoba told Janes in a 17 September statement. The system's range is 50 km and it is equipped with a 4 kg “hybrid warhead”, which has the capability to penetrate heavily armoured vehicles, Guoba said. The X-Wing has an artificial intelligence (AI)-based targeting system, which “can help guide [the] UAS to heavily camouflaged targets”, he added.

The loitering munition's sensor includes a gimbal system with a camera, which “can lock onto a target from more than 2 km away”, Guoba said. The camera has a thermal imaging capability for night-time operations.

The X-Wing operates in global navigation satellite services (GNSS)-denied environments and was tested in Ukraine in Spring 2025 by the Granta team and the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), according to Guoba.

Granta Autonomy plans to produce 1,000 X-Wing loitering munitions per month by the first half of 2026 at its facility in Lithuania. Deliveries are expected to begin before the end of 2025.
