Leonardo proposed payloads for Baykar unmanned aircraft systems (UASs) through the two companies' LBA Systems 50:50 joint venture (JV) at the International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF) 2025 held in Istanbul from 22 to 27 July.
At its stand next to Baykar's, LBA had a presentation showing the LEOSS gyrostabilised electro-optical turret system with a targeting capability under the nose of a Bayraktar TB2 UAS and under the fuselage of an Akıncı UAS. The TB2 also had a BriteStorm jammer payload and an SWave Airborne SDR SRT-800 software-defined radar further forward in the nose. Other payloads proposed are the Gabbiano T-Soul 360º coverage radar for advanced intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR)/intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (ISTAR) missions; Osprey 20/30 multimode second-generation active electronically scanned array (AESA) surveillance radar; SAGE digital electronic support measures/electronic intelligence for radio frequency (RF) ISR missions; and an Ultra Light Sonics Enhanced System (ULISSES) for advanced anti-submarine warfare operations.
The Akıncı had a Grifo-E fire-control electronically scanned (E-Scan) pulse-Doppler multimode airborne radar in the nose and an SDR SRT-800 and identification friend-or-foe (IFF) 428 transponder in the rear fuselage and ULISSES further forward. Other payloads proposed are the Osprey 55/30 and Seaspray 7500 multimode AESA surveillance radars, Gabbiano T-Soul, SAGE, Skyward advanced infrared search-and-track (IRST) for single and multiple targets, IFF interrogator S/T 456, and Multiple Aperture Infrared (MAIR)-A missile warning system.
An LBA representative told Janes on 24 July that integrating these systems into TB2 and Akıncı was a step towards doing the same with the Kızılelma unmanned combat aircraft system (UCAS) that Baykar displayed at IDEF 2025.
