IDEX 2025: Edge Group to supply GPS-Protect to UAE MoD

The United Arab Emirates' (UAE's) Edge Group was awarded a AED227 million (USD61.81 million) contract by the UAE Ministry of Defence (MoD) to supply its GPS-Protect anti-jamming system to the UAE Armed Forces, the company announced at the International Defence Exhibition & Conference (IDEX) 2025 held in Abu Dhabi from 17 to 21 February.

As per the contract the anti-jamming system will be produced and developed by Sign4l, an electronic warfare (EW) entity within Edge Group.

GPS-Protect is designed to mitigate the threat to global navigation satellite services (GNSS) receivers from jamming and interference in contested environments. There are various GNSS fielded by countries worldwide, such as GPS (United States), BeiDou (China), GLONASS (Russia), Galileo (Europe), and so forth, with GPS being the most common.

GPS-Protect is platform-agnostic and can be integrated with unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), aircraft, guided weapons, and land and maritime platforms. The device incorporates digital signal processing and antenna technology to prevent narrowband and broadband jamming through an enclosed printed circuit board (PCB) anti-jamming module.

It provides GNSS protection in GPS L1 (1,575.42 MHz) and L2 (1,227.6 MHz) frequencies, with a jam-to-signal ratio (JSR) of up to 105 dB for a single jammer, and up to 100 dB (narrowband) and 90 dB (broadband) for up to three jammers. The device consists of four antenna array elements and is capable of operating at temperatures between -40°C and +70°C.
