NATO has trialled Rheinmetall's Battlesuite integrated digital platform in a harbour protection role as part of NATO's Exercise ‘REPMUS 25' (Robotic Experimentation and Prototyping with Maritime Unmanned Systems) in Portugal.
REPMUS' Harbour Protection Commander, Commander Marc Fetting of the German Navy and NATO Allied Maritime Command (MARCOM), and Rheinmetall representatives, told Janes during a briefing on 23 September how the system was being tested. Cdr Fetting (who was responsible for force protection, harbour protection, counter-improvised explosive devices [IEDs], and chemical, biological, radiological, and nuclear [CBRN] at REPMUS) said NATO was working on harbour protection within the Supreme Allied Commander Europe (SACEUR) area of responsibility. The tests in Portugal provided an opportunity to see how well NATO was defending its own ports, he said.
