Programme officials at Virginia-based defence technology company AeroVironment have unveiled a new variant of its Titan counter-unmanned aircraft system (C-UAS) platform, designed to be more adaptable and mobile than other C-UAS capabilities within the Titan family of systems.
The new single-chassis Titan 4 C-UAS platform is based on the company's Titan-SV system, which features a dual chassis setup, to provide passive, long-range detection of small UAS threats, according to a May company statement. However, by utilising a single-chassis design, programme engineers have been able to reduce the total weight of the Titan 4 by 17%, compared with the Titan SV, company officials said.
The overall footprint of the Titan 4 is also 73% smaller than the SV variant, due in large part to the system's single-chassis design, the officials noted.
While the Titan 4 features a smaller form factor, the system is capable of transmitting C-UAS signals across six radio frequency (RF) bands, pushed out by the platforms 540 W total transmission power, according to the statement. The 540 W output is roughly 250% more, compared with the SV variant, the statement added.
Both the SV and the Titan 4 can be fielded in mobile, fixed-site, and manportable configurations, according to an AeroVironment fact sheet. The fixed-site SV configuration is dubbed the DVIR MKII while the vehicle-borne or manpackable mobile variant is known as the MPV3, it added.
The mobile Titan 4 variant could be fielded in tandem with the company's Titan electro-optic/infrared (EO/IR) C-UAS platform, which identifies, tracks, and targets adversary small UAS (sUAS) platforms. The Titan EO/IR is a multisensor system that can employ detection capabilities across RF and mid-wave infrared (MWIR) wavelengths, according to the May company statement.
