The Croatian Ministry of Defence (MoD) has made an order worth EUR1.8 million (USD2.03 million) for more of Finnish communication company Bittium's Tough SDR Vehicular radios and Tactical Wireless IP Network (TAC WIN) systems for its navy and land forces, according to a 29 April Bittium press release.
The single purchase order within the four-year framework agreement covers the supply and integration of the tactical communications systems. The deal is between Bittium's Croatian partner IntellByte INFO and the Croatian MoD, and is part of a broader renewal of the command-and-control (C2) system of the Croatian Armed Forces.
TAC WIN is a software-defined radio (SDR)-based, high-rate wireless IP network system that delivers voice, data, and video communications. It is used to build a modular network that will come to include Croatia's naval vessels for planned communication between land and naval forces. The system allows for broadband communication in different use cases and for interoperability between the TAC WIN network and the radios.
The ESSOR (European Secure Software Defined Radio) High Data Rate Waveform (HDRWF), which has been adopted by NATO as the standard for tactical communications, is compatible with the Tough SDR Vehicular radios.
Bittium Tough SDR Vehicular is a two-channel SDR supporting simultaneous use of two different waveforms with separate antennas, according to Janes C4ISR & Mission Systems: Land . The radio is designed for installation in tracked and wheeled vehicles, and weapon and sensor platforms. It can also function as a communication station with stationary and semi-stationary installation. The frequency range for ANT1 (antenna 1) is 225–2,500 MHz and for ANT2 is 30–512 MHz.
