Atech Negócios em Tecnologias, the command, control, communications, computers, and intelligence (C4I) and air traffic management (ATM) systems house of the Brazilian defence industrial base, is establishing an office in Lisbon, Portugal, to strengthen its European presence.
Atech's first office outside Brazil is part of the company's strategy to pursue business objectives abroad, particularly in the defence, security, and ATM sectors, the company said on 20 June.
This will be the second office of an Embraer Group company in Portugal, following the establishment of Embraer Defense Europe in December 2024.
Atech, which has a workforce of approximately 550, was acquired by the Embraer Group in 2013. It is accredited as a strategic defence company by the Brazilian Ministry of Defence.
The company works closely with the Brazilian Armed Forces, including developing the N-TDMS (Naval Tactical Data Management System) naval mission system for the Brazilian Navy's Airbus Helicopters AH-15B Super Cougar combat helicopters in partnership with Airbus Defence and Space, and produced multifunction consoles for the Naval Group SUBTICS (Submarine Tactical Integrated Combat System) combat management system installed in the navy's Riachuelo-class submarines.
Atech is working with the Navy Technology Center in São Paulo to develop the LABGENE (Laboratório de Geração NúcleoElétrica) onshore prototype of the pressurised water reactor (PWR) nuclear power plant that will power Brazil's nuclear-powered submarine, SNCA Álvaro Alberto .
The company is also integrating the Atlas Elektronik ANCS (ATLAS Naval Combat System) combat management system and an L3Harris integrated platform management system (IPMS) for the four Tamandaré-class frigates scheduled to be commissioned by the Brazilian Navy between 2025 and 2029.
