Elbit Systems UK (ESUK) delivered 55 of its Ground Based Surveillance Radar (GBSR) systems to the UK's Royal Artillery following successful live-fire trials earlier in 2025, the company announced in a 12 November press release.
The delivery is of the first tranche of GBSRs under a contract announced on 23 May 2023, ESUK confirmed to Janes on 14 November.
The company added that the GBSR was a new system created specifically to meet British Army requirements for both surveillance and fall of shot correction. ESUK has said that adaptations to create the GBSR include an optimised stabilisation unit and open architecture software upgrades to facilitate integration both with existing and future Ministry of Defence (MoD) systems. The system also incorporates capture software that allows operator performance to be analysed in training.
Operating in surveillance mode, the portable GBSR is designed to use digital signal processing to track and classify personnel, vehicles, helicopters, and unmanned aircraft systems (UASs) moving on or close to the ground. Operating in fall of shot correction mode, the GBSR was intended to provide mortar and artillery teams with fires adjustment by location outgoing rounds.
ESUK said it would work to deliver the remaining 35 systems later in 2025.
