US electronic measurement equipment manufacturer Keysight Technologies Inc has been awarded a contract for a new radar and electronic support measures (ESM) test system for NATO's Naval Forces Sensor and Weapons Accuracy Check Sites (FORACS).
The company confirmed to Janes in an email that the contract's worth is in excess of EUR14 million (USD15.9 million).
The Norwegian Defence Materiel Agency (NDMA) is responsible for the procurement of the new system, which includes Keysight's Radar Target Generator (RTG) and electronic warfare (EW) threat simulators. The platform will be used for testing accuracy, maintenance of NATO radar systems, and the assessment of ESM effectiveness on NATO navy bases. The official contract was signed on 9 April at NDMA headquarters in Oslo, Norway, Keysight Technologies said in a 28 April press release.
The specific requirements set out by NATO for the RTG and ESM test system include the need to verify the accuracy of maritime vessel sensors, Bert Esser, solution engineer director at Keysight Technologies, told Janes on 25 April. The combination of the ESM and RTG in a single platform allows for testing of vessel radar, environmental awareness, and test handover between systems under âextremely challenging conditionsâ, said Esser, adding that the system was built using commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) equipment, which âsignificantly reduced project risk and durationâ.
