The HGXR SIM that Rheinmetall is developing with fellow German company Hologate is a lightweight vehicle training solution with no specific infrastructure requirements for installation, and that several simulators can be networked for collective training, Rheinmetall told Janes on 18 December.

Rheinmetall and Hologate signed a strategic co-operation agreement to produce extended reality (XR) and virtual reality (VR) simulation solutions, the companies announced in a joint press release on 2 December. According to the release, this co-operation “aims to advance developments that are crucial for modern military training”.

Rheinmetall has extensive experience in military training systems across the live, virtual, and constructive (LVC) spectrum. It has provided armoured vehicle gunnery and driver training simulators to several countries, including Canada, Poland, and Switzerland.

Hologate brings expertise in the development of XR simulation technologies. It has a background in providing XR solutions for gaming and entertainment, but more recently, it has moved into simulation for training with its HGXR platform and Holoforce military and law enforcement individual and team training products, which are in use with the German and Swiss police and the Bundeswehr.

Rheinmetall told Janes that it is the systems integrator and “provides added value in vehicle expertise, training execution, and training assessment. Hologate is the technology provider in hardware and software”.
