Saab explores new markets for its live-training simulation

Saab's Training and Simulation unit continues to develop its Gamer live-training system and is aiming to expand its user market into the maritime domain, the company told Janes.

Speaking from the Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation, and Education Conference (I/ITSEC) 2024, held in Orlando, Florida, from 2 to 6 December, Hans Lindgren, Saab's head of business development, highlighted several areas of activity.

He told Janes that the indirect fire capability within the Gamer laser-based tactical engagement simulation system (TESS), which enables single- or multi-barrel fire support from mortars or artillery to be played realistically during force-on-force exercises, was now fully mature and ready for delivery to its first customer, the Royal Netherlands Army.

Lindgren added that the simulation of loitering munitions, beyond-line-of-sight weapons and possibly suicide drones was under development, utilising the same technology. He said that “many customers had shown interest in buying or testing this”, particularly to simulate loitering munitions, and he was confident that orders would follow in due course.

Lindgren also revealed a new customer for the live drone capability integrated with TESS that Saab is currently providing as a service to the British Army for experimentation, but did not specify who this is.
