ARX Robotics demonstrates Gereon UGV

ARX Roboticsʼ Gereon unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) was demonstrated at Räyskälä airfield in Finland on 9 December during the NATO Task Force X Eastern Flank Deterrence Line (TFX EFDL) technical demonstration.

Two versions were demonstrated at Räyskälä – a logistics UGV and another one with a command, control, communication, computers, intelligence, surveillance, target acquisition, and reconnaissance (C4ISTAR) payload including optronics and a laser rangefinder. Other versions include one with a tethered unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and a recce strike variant armed with light machine guns and grenade launchers.

Gereon is designed to plug and play any payload weighing up to 500 kg and has a battery lasting three days (72 hours). It uses Starlink but other communications are possible.

Gereon has been tested by the British Armyʼs 4 Brigade in Kenya and has been employed in Ukraine, including on a 17-hour casualty evacuation (casevac) mission. Roberta Randerach, ARX Roboticʼs head of business development, said the UGV has been used in Ukraine for logistics, for ISR, as a weapons carrier, for medical evacuation of up to three wounded, and to retrieve the bodies of dead soldiers. One Ukrainian medical unit has conducted 20 casevacs with the UGV, according to Randerach. She identified a Ukrainian requirement for a variant for electronic warfare, which has been integrated into the UGV.

Randerach said ARX Roboticsʼ partnership with drive system manufacturer Deutz announced on 16 October would allow Gereon production to be increased from one to 85 a day. She also spoke of establishing a supply chain and localisation of production, including in Ukraine.
