ARX Robotics unveils Gereon UGV, details upcoming collaboration with RENK

ARX Robotics – a German startup with headquarters in London, England, since April – has showcased its Gereon armed unmanned ground vehicle (UGV).

An unarmed version of Gereon has already been deployed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) as last-mile logistical support, according to ARX Robotics CEO David Roberts.

The Gereon is a light UGV with a claimed maximum payload capacity of 500 kg. A modular design and open architecture allow the integration of weapons systems such as 5.56 mm machine guns and grenade launchers, according to Roberts. He added that a non-disclosed Ukrainian manufacturer has been integrating a gyrostabilised remote weapon station (RWS) fitted with other kinds of machine guns, including a 7.62 mm. An ARX Robotics engineer demonstrated to Janes the ease of maintenance of the robotic platform due to tool-free payload swaps.

RENK partnering

Roberts told Janes at the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2025 exhibition in September that the company aims to increase the autonomy and mobility of its manufactured platforms based on complementary capabilities provided by German transmission maker RENK. Roberts said ARX is focused on enhancing autonomous functions, while the partnership with RENK, which started in July, would be providential for increasing the mobility and endurance of upcoming platforms.

According to Roberts, while autonomy was initially explored in non-autonomous, legacy platforms, increasing Gereon's autonomy and mobility to replace some manned missions from rear areas up to the line of contact, has become crucial – “when you're looking at operating further from the front line, you need to have vehicles, which are going to be operating at higher speeds with longer endurances”.
