Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace announced on 17 December it had received an order from the Danish Ministry of Defence's (MoD's) Defence Acquisition and Logistics Organisation (DALO), for supply of the Naval Strike Missile Coastal Defence System (NSM CDS).

The contract, which is valued at over EUR100 million (USD117 million), covers the provision of an unspecified number of NSM CDS batteries. Coastal defence is carried out by the Royal Danish Navy (RDN). An NSM CDS battery typically comprises Kongsberg's fire-control system, launch units, and the NSM missiles themselves. No delivery dates were disclosed by Kongsberg or DALO as part of the contract announcement.

The NSM missile is a canister-launched, long-range anti-ship missile initially developed by Kongsberg to provide the Royal Norwegian Navy (RNoN) with a deep strike capability for naval and land-based targets. Kongsberg states the NSM has a range of more than 300 km. The missile has been optimised to penetrate hostile air-defence zones by leveraging construction materials and airframe design to minimise the missile's infrared (IR) and radar signatures, and its radar cross-section.

The NSM CDS complex has modular networking architecture, allowing for its fire distribution centre to integrate third-party radars and external sensors within its command-and-control (C2) network. This open architecture design also facilitates the integration of NSM CDS within the Danish armed forces' existing joint fires system to prevent it from become a technologically siloed capability.
