DSEI 2025: MyDefence reveals Custom Drone Library for rapid UAS RF classification

Danish counter-unmanned aircraft system (C-UAS) company MyDefence revealed its Custom Drone Library software and hardware system for UAS radio frequency (RF) signatures at the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2025 exhibition held in London from 9 to 12 September.

While MyDefence already provides a library of recognised UAS RF signatures with its range of drone detectors and jammers, they have found that some users need to add new frequencies much faster than they can provide them.

“We provide updates to our built-in RF signature libraries every three months or so, and dealing with security protocols or getting data into conflict zones where it is needed can take even longer,” MyDefence CEO Dan Hermansen told Janes at DSEI 2025.

“The signature of a single UAS can vary depending on its altitude, range, what bandwidth it is using, and if it is using frequency hopping. That's a lot of potential signatures. It can take us a month to fully make a clean recording of a single UAS, process that, and put it into our library,” said Hermansen.

Custom Drone Library is intended as an addition to those already using MyDefence drone detector systems such as Watchdog or Wolfpack. It comes with recording hardware to try and add the best possible quality of signatures into the library, with training provided to the user so that their engineers, not MyDefence's, will be doing the analysis within hours. Those signatures, perhaps of a new or modified UAS, can then be rapidly disseminated among other C-UAS units.
