US-based unmanned surface vehicle (USV) builder Saronic Technologies is seeking to expand into the United Kingdom and Europe, the company announced at the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2025 exhibition held in London from 9 to 12 September.
The company has global ambitions to deliver for allied forces such as the UK and Australia, indicating hopes in the strength of support behind the Australia-United Kingdom-United States (AUKUS) agreement. It is also exploring possible opportunities in other European countries, Paul Hollingshead, UK & Europe manager at Saronic, told Janes at DSEI 2025.
In the UK, Hollingshead said the recent Strategic Defence Review (SDR) and UK Royal Navy (RN) Maritime Operating Concept have shown strong demand signals for a requirement for autonomous vessels, which are capable of operating in sea states that are likely to be encountered in the North Atlantic. Saronic's larger vessels may suit this requirement, Hollingshead said.
The company is seeking to invest in the UK by building and training a local workforce and working with local partners. A future goal is to innovate in the UK, he said, with Saronic potentially building new vessels there that it has not yet conceived. Such vessels could then be added to Saronic's portfolio, with a potential to export UK-developed intellectual property (IP) back to the US, Hollingshead said.
