Hürkus-II trainer for Türkiye makes maiden flight

The Turkish Aerospace (TA) Hürkus-II advanced turboprop trainer aircraft made its maiden flight on 30 December.

The twin-seat aircraft, which is already earmarked to enter service with the Turkish Air Force, performed the milestone out of TA's production facility near Ankara. As noted by TA, the Hürkus-II flew for 20 minutes, reaching 6,500 ft and 140 kt.

The Hürkus-II is the latest version of the Turkish turboprop trainer aircraft, after the civil Hürkus-A, the military-trainer Hürkus-B, and the armed Hürkus-C.

The Turkish Air Force already fields the Hürkus-B, which replaced the SIAI-Marchetti SF260 in the primary trainer role. The first of 15 Hürkus-B aircraft was delivered in 2018, which are to be augmented by 55 of the latest Hürkus-II aircraft.

TA has not disclosed performance specifications for the Hürkus-II, but Janes All the World's Aircraft lists the Hürkus series as having a maximum take-off weight of 3,650 kg, a rate of climb of 3,146 ft/min, a service ceiling of 34,300 ft, a maximum speed of 295 kt, a g -limit of +7/-3.5, a range of 1,161 km, and an endurance of four hours.
