Lithuania has received the first of four Sikorsky UH-60M Black Hawk transport and utility helicopters, the Lithuanian Armed Forces announced on 19 October.

Two Black Hawks were delivered to the Baltic country five years after they were contracted in November 2020 to replace three Soviet-made Mi-8 ‘Hips'. However, it was not disclosed when the remaining two helicopters will be delivered.

With four Black Hawks ordered, Lithuania has been approved by the US government to receive a further two should it decide to exercise that option. Additional Black Hawks would enable the Lithuanian Armed Forces to also replace three French-built Aerospatiale AS365 N3+ Dauphins.

As the most modern variant of the Black Hawk helicopter, the UH-60M incorporates more powerful and reliable General Electric T700-GE-701D engines, enhanced rotor blades, and a fully digital ‘glass' cockpit.
