HII has delivered the initial two Lionfish small unmanned underwater vehicles (SUUVs) to the US Navy (USN), the company confirmed in a press release on 7 April during the Navy League Sea-Air-Space 2025 annual conference and exposition.
The USN contract with HII for the SUUVs can exceed USD347 million, the company said, with the programme scaling up to 200 vehicles.
The USN awarded HII the Lionfish system programme contract in 2023 for production at HII's Uncrewed Systems facility in Pocasset, Massachusetts.
Based on HII's REMUS 300 platform, Lionfish is a modular, open-architecture SUUV engineered for multimission adaptability.
The Lionfish programme was developed in collaboration with the USN and Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) to accelerate the adoption of dual-use commercial technologies, HII noted.

The SUUV's mission set includes mine countermeasures; intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR); anti-submarine warfare; and electronic warfare (EW).
