Milrem Robotics has revealed that the Netherlands will be in part funding and co-ordinating the delivery of more than 150 Tracked Hybrid Modular Infantry System (THeMIS) unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) to Ukraine, according to the company's 6 October press release.
The deliveries will be co-ordinated with Dutch company VDL Defentec, which will also support Milrem in the assembly of the UGVs. The donation of THeMIS was announced in September; however, the country providing the funding was not named.
Edge Group subsidiary Milrem will also deliver training to Ukrainian operators and support staff as part of this delivery.
There are already at least 15 THeMIS UGVs in operation in Ukraine. The new delivery will be outfitted by Ukrainian equipment providers.
In August Milrem announced that it had integrated Ukrainian defence company Frontline's Buria remote weapon station (RWS), equipped with a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher, onto its THeMIS UGV.
THeMIS weighs 1,630 kg without payload and has a maximum speed of 20 km/h, running up to 1.5 h with a 1.5 km line-of-sight control range. It can carry up to 1,000 kg. Apart from being used as a combat platform, it can also carry cargo and evacuate wounded soldiers from the front line.
