Eurofighter is to increase the production rate of its Typhoon combat aircraft to accommodate the new orders now coming through and future sales that are anticipated in light of “the total madness” of the current geopolitical situation, the head of the consortium said on 18 June.

Speaking to Janes and other defence media at the Paris Air Show 2025, recently appointed Eurofighter CEO Jorge Tamarit Degenhardt said that production across the four partner nation facilities is to be ramped up “to increase rate and to reduce lead time”.

“We are going to increase the production rate from the current 12 aircraft [per year], first to 20 and then, depending on future sales, to 30,” Degenhardt said, adding that the initial leap to 20 aircraft a year will happen in the next 36 months. “It now takes about 50 months [from contract signature to delivery], and we need to reduce that,” he explained.

The Eurofighter consortium of Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK has its production and assembly facilities of Airbus Defence and Space at Manching in Germany, Leonardo at Caselle in Italy, Airbus Defence and Space at Getafe in Spain, and BAE Systems at Warton in the UK.
