British maritime defence company JFD Global (JFD) was awarded a contract to provide deep saturation diving and submarine rescue capabilities to the Polish Navy.
The contract, awarded by PGZ Naval Shipyard (PGZ Stocznia Wojenna) on 10 December, includes delivery of a classed integrated hyperbaric chamber complex to enable saturation diving and submarine rescue for Poland's new salvage and rescue vessel, Ratownik . JFD will also help with integration during Ratownik's design and construction phases.
Collaboration between PGZ and JFD is intended to ensure that Ratownik is compatible with the NATO Submarine Rescue System (NSRS), which is managed and maintained by JFD on behalf of the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD).
JFD has managed NSRS since 2015, providing a 24/7 global submarine rescue service. This in-service support contract includes the maintenance and operation of the system to ensure it is in a rescue ready state on behalf of the French Navy, the Royal Norwegian Navy (RNoN), and the UK Royal Navy (RN).
Scheduled to be completed in quarter four of 2029, Ratownik will become one of the largest ships in the Polish Navy's fleet, playing a role in the protection of critical underwater infrastructure (CUI) in the Baltic Sea, and responding to incidents involving submarines in both territorial and international waters.
