Rheinmetall completes delivery of HX trucks to the Australian Defence Force

Rheinmetall MAN Military Vehicles Australia (RMMVA) has completed the delivery of its HX range of tactical military trucks to the Australian Defence Force (ADF).

Rheinmetall announced on 20 February that the deliveries of the HX range of trucks were part of the Australian Department of Defence's (DoD's) Land 121 Phase 3B/5B programme, which aimed to acquire medium and heavy field vehicles, modules and trailers, and the associated support systems.

According to the announcement, Rheinmetall has delivered more than 3,500 medium and heavy military logistics trucks and more than 3,100 modules and protected cabs.

The Australian HX fleet of trucks includes recovery vehicles, transporters, self-loading hook-lifts, fuel trucks, tractors, and tippers, Rheinmetall added.

Rheinmetall held a “final acceptance” ceremony at its Military Vehicle Centre of Excellence (MILVEHCOE) in Queensland on 20 February to mark the conclusion of the truck deliveries.

According to Janes , Rheinmetall started delivering the HX trucks to the ADF in April 2016.

Michael Wittlinger, chief of staff of Rheinmetall AG, said, “Our team of field service representatives follows the members of the Australian Army with the HX trucks to all corners of Australia to ensure the reliability and serviceability of the vehicle fleet.”

According to the product description published by Rheinmetall, the HX family of trucks is powered by a six-cylinder in-line diesel engine. The vehicle can weigh up to 41,000 kg and can operate in temperatures from -32°C to 49°C. It can ford to a depth of 1.5 m.
