A manned-unmanned teaming (MUM-T) project that will allow the Republic of Singapore Air Force's (RSAF's) Airbus H225M medium-lift helicopter to control unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) is scheduled to take place in 2025, the Singapore Ministry of Defense (MINDEF) has said.
The planned trials are the result of an agreement signed in June by Singapore's Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) and Airbus at the Paris Air Show 2025. “The trials are currently being planned, and testing is expected to commence in late 2025,” a DSTA spokesperson told Janes in July.
During the trials, which are planned to be conducted in Singapore, the Aerovel (Airbus) Flexrotor UAV will be operated with the RSAF H225M using Airbus' new HTeaming MUM-T system. “DSTA is interested to explore the potential of MUM-T to enhance situational awareness and improve mission outcomes,” the agency spokesperson said.
Integration
The first version of HTeaming can be used in two ways, Airbus added. One is as a standalone system that comprises a tablet for human-machine interface and software to manage the UAV. The other is as an integrated solution.
“In terms of capabilities, there will be no difference between the two solutions [MUM-T standalone versus integrated],” an Airbus spokesperson told Janes in June. “The current standalone solution is easier to integrate on any helicopter” as it needs only the installation “of the antennas and the modem”, which is then plugged to the tablet.
