The Spanish Navy (Armada) has set out the delivery timeline for its remaining NHIndustries (NHI) NH90 Multi-Role Support Transport (MSPT) helicopters, ahead of placing its anticipated order for NH90 Spain (HSPN) helicopters.
The service said on 12 December that it will have received three of the contracted seven MSPT helicopters by the end of 2025, with the remaining four to be delivered in 2026. The MSPT is a hybrid of the NATO Frigate Helicopter (NFH) and Troop Transport Helicopter (TTH) variants of the NH90.
“The [Spanish] Navy expects to receive very soon the third NH90 of the seven planned, thus completing the fleet that will strengthen its operational and technological capacity. Planned deliveries [are] three in 2025 and four in 2026,” the Armada said.
MSPT deliveries
The president of the NHI, Axel Aloccio, recently told Janes and other defence media that three MSPT helicopters had already been delivered to the Armada – two in May and then the third in July – suggesting that it has been undertaking final checks before being formally accepted into service.
“I hear the Spanish Navy is happy about those helicopters. There are seven to be delivered to the Spanish Navy, and hopefully then this will also pave the way for an [HSPN] NFH contract in the next years – that's the target,” Aloccio said during a 14 October media event at the Marignane production facility of consortium chief stakeholder Airbus Helicopters.
