L3Harris Technologies, in conjunction with defence information technology (IT) firm Anduril, said the two companies will have a prototype variant of the new Soldier Borne Mission Command (SBMC) concept platform ready in time for the US Army's Project Convergence capstone exercise in boreal summer 2026.
The prototype platform for SBMC will consist of L3Harris' AN/PSQ-42 Enhanced Night Vision Goggle-Binocular (ENVG-B) integrated with Anduril's Lattice mesh networking software, according to Jay Abendroth, president of the Integrated Vision Solutions sector for L3Harris.
“We feel very confident that we already have [night-vision goggle] prototypes ... working with Lattice, along with other [software] in the ecosystem” to demonstrate the SBMC technology in time for the 2026 Project Convergence capstone exercise, Abendroth told Janes .
With the company's role in the SBMC competition, L3Harris “have actually started our conversation about how do we find our way [down] the digital path” in terms of interlinking the company's legacy systems into ongoing combat networking strategies being developed by the Pentagon and service branches, he said during a September interview.
“We are making sure we are just not building analogue [night-vision] goggles,” he said noting company officials want to integrate capabilities that are “getting into situational awareness and how ... we use the individual soldier to tie into a larger network”, Abendroth said, regarding integration of the ENVG-B system into the Anduril SBMC offering.
