Türkiye and the United Kingdom have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) related to the procurement of Eurofighter Typhoon combat aircraft.
Signed on 23 July by the defence ministers of the two countries at the International Defence Industry Fair (IDEF) 2025 exhibition in Istanbul, the MOU effectively green-lights the long-heralded procurement for the Turkish Air Force (TurAF) ahead of a contract.
“BAE Systems has welcomed the signing of an MOU between the Republic of Türkiye and the UK government relating to the potential purchase of Eurofighter Typhoon aircraft,” the lead industrial contractor for the UK on the Eurofighter programme said. They added, “The agreement was signed today by Turkish Minister of National Defense Yaşar Güler and UK Secretary of State for Defence John Healey at IDEF in Istanbul.”
While the MOU did not disclose potential aircraft numbers, Eurofighter has previously said Türkiye is looking to acquire 40 aircraft. With this MOU, a contract is expected to be signed shortly.
