Akaer and Aselsan sign MOU on defence industrial co-operation

Brazilian defence and aerospace engineering specialist Akaer Engenharia and Turkish defence and aerospace conglomerate Aselsan are looking to jointly develop defence solutions.

The CEOs of the two companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to formalise co-operation on 9 September during the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2025 exhibition in London, the same day as the Brazilian National Congress approved an agreement on defence industry co-operation with Türkiye.

The MOU aims to facilitate technology transfer, explore opportunities, and offer integrated solutions in areas such as avionics, electro-optics, special mission payloads, armoured vehicle modernisation, naval systems, night-vision equipment, and autonomous technologies, among others, Akaer said in a statement.

Akaer, which is headquartered in São José dos Campos, São Paulo state, has established an office in Türkiye.

Aselsan is believed to be eyeing several Brazilian military modernisation efforts, including a potential acquisition of ground-based air-defence systems.

Akaer has also been working with Turkish firm Türk Havacılık ve Uzay Sanayii (TUSAŞ), including developing and detailing the structural design, and installing rear fuselage systems, parts of the central fuselage, and empennage of its Hürjet advanced trainer and light combat aircraft.

Akaer also contributed to the development of TUSAŞ' Hürkuş trainer and light attack aircraft and Global 6000 HAVA SOJ electronic warfare aircraft.
