Canberra-based Electro Optic Systems (EOS) has entered into an agreement to acquire the Interceptor business of UK-based defence manufacturer MARSS Group.

EOS announced on 19 November that the proposed deal – worth EUR5.5 million (USD6.3 million) – features the acquisition of all MARSS Interceptor counter-unmanned aircraft system (C-UAS) assets including the engineering team responsible for the product's development.

Completion of the acquisition is subject to required approvals and customary conditions, EOS said.

An EOS spokesperson told Janes on 20 November that the acquisition gives EOS “rapid access to a capability that would have taken years and significant cost to develop ourselves”.

According to the spokesperson, the Interceptor will complement EOS' layered C-UAS portfolio and “fill the space” between EOS' remote weapon systems (RWSs) and High Energy Laser Weapons, offering a “fast, low-collateral effector” with an enhanced range.

A version of the Interceptor can be side-loaded to EOS' RWSs, providing vehicle or fixed-site protection against hostile unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), the spokesperson said, adding that its compact form and mobility also make it suitable for standalone deployment.

The spokesperson said the Interceptor can be integrated with the sensors and command-and-control (C2) systems used across EOS' products.

The Interceptor is connected to MARSS' NiDAR air-defence system. However, the EOS spokesperson said the Interceptor is agnostic in terms of interconnectivity with a C2 system and can work with any comparable system even though it has been developed in the context of NiDAR.
