Netherlands procures JLTVs for marines
The Dutch MoD plans to sign a contract for 150 JLTVs for the Korps Mariniers in June. (Dutch MoD)
The Dutch Ministry of Defence (MoD) and Oshkosh Defense announced on their websites on 24 April that the ministry will order 150 Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs) for the Korps Mariniers (Royal Netherlands Marine Corps: RNLMC).
The Dutch MoD said that it would place the order in June, with deliveries planned for 2028. A maintenance contract will also be signed.
Oshkosh said the ministry selected the Dutch Expeditionary Patrol Vehicle (DXPV), a JLTV variant tailored to fulfil the requirements for its Future Littoral All Terrain Mobility-Patrol Vehicle (FLATM-PV). In the tender for the FLATM-PV unarmoured all-terrain vehicle (ATV) placed on the TenderNed portal on 4 May 2024, the Commando Materieel en IT (Materiel and IT Command: COMMIT) said it should be able to operate under extreme conditions in the littoral, with high fording (saltwater) capabilities and enough flexibility in energy supply to add weapon systems and/or sensors in the future.
The Dutch MoD expected the large number of JLTVs produced and delivered to NATO countries to contribute to interoperability and therefore operational deployability. Pat Williams, chief programmes officer, Oshkosh Defense, said, “Our DXPV is highly common with the approximately 22,000 JLTVs delivered to the US DoD [Department of Defense] and more than 1,600 JLTVs produced for other NATO and allied countries that are being fielded now and in the future. This high level of commonality not only significantly reduces the logistics footprint required to support and sustain the DXPV, but also ensures exceptional system performance, maximises operational readiness, and enhances interoperability. It enables our customers to leverage an established supply chain, streamline training, and simplify integration – driving greater efficiency and mission success across the board.”
