The Paraguayan Air Force (FAP) received the first four of six Embraer A-29 Super Tucano light attack and trainer aircraft on 30 June. The Paraguayan government announced the acquisition of six Super Tucanos in July 2024, intended to revamp the FAP's combat fleet.

In announcing the aircraft's arrival to Asunción, the FAP said the Super Tucanos will be used for aerial surveillance, interdicting suspicious aircraft, and pilot training.

“This addition to our aircraft fleet represents the most important defence acquisition in the last 38 years; the A-29s delivered to Paraguay are the most modern of their kind in the world,” said FAP Commander Air General Júlio Fullaondo Céspedes.

The aircraft arrived at Silvio Pettirossi Air Force Base, where they will be assigned to the FAP's 1st Aerial Brigade. The acquisition is worth approximately USD100 million, financed through a loan from Brazilian development bank Banco Nacional de Desenvolvimento Econômico e Social.

Embraer declined to comment about the delivery. The FAP had not responded to Janes questions at the time of publication.
