Denmark's Bornholm Regiment is ready to place Patria 6×6 armoured personnel carriers (APCs) into service, the Danish Ministry of Defence (MoD) announced on its website on 9 January. The ministry said the first 15 of the regiment's planned 129 APCs arrived in Bornholm.
The regiment, which is tasked with defending Bornholm, has formed three mechanised infantry companies to operate the Patria 6×6 APCs. One of the companies will be on high alert for rapid deployment on international operations.
Colonel Lars Nygaard, commander of the Bornholm Regiment and garrison commander of the island's Almegård Barracks, said on 9 January that in addition to the Patria 6×6 vehicles, “We are increasing the number of soldiers; we are also well under way with the construction here at the barracks, and today we have officially transitioned from a reconnaissance unit to mechanised infantry.”
Denmark received its first two Patria 6×6 APCs on Bornholm on 1 September 2025 to train mechanics and other specialists to prepare the Danish Armed Forces to use the APCs when the remainder are delivered in 2026. The Danish MoD quoted instructors praising the Patria 6×6 vehicle's offroad capabilities and ease of use and saying it was very similar to a car with an automatic transmission.
Patria and the Danish MoD announced on 1 April 2025 that Denmark had joined the Finnish-led Common Armoured Vehicle System (CAVS) programme with the signature of its technical agreement and that the Scandinavian country would procure Patria 6×6 vehicles worth DKK1.9 billion (USD296 million) financed by the acceleration fund agreed under Denmark's cross-party agreement to strengthen the Danish Armed Forces.
