Rheinmetall unveiled the KF41 Lynx Skyranger 35 (SR35) in a video on 4 September and will display the mobile ground-based air-defence system at the Defence and Security Equipment International (DSEI) 2025 exhibition being held in London from 9 to 12 September. The company described the tracked system as “highly mobile, modular, and scalable, [as well as] increasingly important for NATO's collective defence”.
Rheinmetall displayed a KF41 Lynx Skyranger 30 (SR30) at Eurosatory 2024, where it also showed an SR35 integrated on a Leopard 2A4 main battle tank hull.
Both the SR30 and SR35 have a search radar and tracking device, while the former has an Oerlikon 30 mm×173 calibre revolver cannon and the latter a 35 mm×228 calibre version of the weapon.
The SR35 has an Oerlikon active electronically scanned array (AESA) multimission radar operating in the S-band. The software-defined pulse-Doppler multimission radar conducts simultaneous scanning of a wide range of air threats. Both the SR30 and SR35 feature electronic counter-countermeasures, with the option of identification friend-or-foe (IFF) Mode 5. Both systems are designed to operate on the move.
The SR35's Oerlikon Revolver Cannon fires airburst munition at a rate of 1,000 rds/min and features linkless ammunition feed, with a 252-round magazine. Its Kinetic Energy Time Fuse (KETF) ammunition contains tungsten subprojectiles and is designed to defeat soft targets (unmanned aerial vehicles [UAVs], fixed- and rotary-wing aircraft, trucks, boats), lightly armoured targets (attack helicopters, BTR-80 armoured personnel carriers), urban targets (adobe, concrete, brick), and personnel. It also has a counter-rocket, artillery, and mortar (C-RAM) capability.
