First Slovak CV90 IFV rolled out

The first Slovak CV90 MkIV infantry fighting vehicle (IFV) was rolled out on 20 February in an official ceremony at BAE Systems Hägglunds in Örnsköldsvik, Sweden, in the presence of Slovak Defence Minister Robert Kaliňák and his Swedish counterpart, Pål Jonson, as well as the Director General of Sweden's Defence Materiel Administration (FMV), Mikael Granholm.

The roll-out was symbolic as the first vehicles for Slovakia left the factory for testing during the fourth quarter of 2025. The CV90 MkIV rolled out was the last of four first-of-type (FoT) vehicles for Slovakia made in Sweden by BAE Systems Hägglunds that are now undergoing an intensive testing phase.

Slovakia ordered 122 CV90 MkIV IFVs and 30 of the six other variants on 12 December 2022 under a government-to-government agreement with Sweden valued at USD1.37 billion, including training and tactical simulation systems. The seven variants are IFV, command, reconnaissance, anti-materiel rifle team carrier, mortar team carrier, armoured recovery vehicle, and armoured engineer vehicle. Slovakia is also considering procuring the CV90120 armed with a 120 mm tank gun.

Also on 12 December 2022, contracts were signed on the industrial workshare between BAE Systems Hägglunds and its main industrial partner, Slovak state company ZTS Špeciál, which will build and deliver CV90s. Speaking at the roll-out ceremony, BAE Systems Hägglunds managing director Tommy Gustafsson-Rask said that CV90 production was under way in Slovakia, with over 30 local companies contracted, accounting for over 40% of the vehicle's contract value. In his remarks, Jonson attributed this high local industry share to Slovakia making an early decision to procure the CV90.
