Hanwha Aerospace and Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW) announced on 7 April that they had signed a contract on the supply of chassis components for 87 Krab 155 mm self-propelled howitzers (SPHs) earlier the same day.
Hanwha said in a press release that it would supply Krab components, including powerpacks, in 2026–28 under the USD280 million contract.
It was the third agreement signed for Hanwha to supply Krab chassis components, following the first one signed in 2014 and the second in 2023.
HSW said on its website that it has carried out a process of “deep Polonisation” of the Krab chassis since the agreement in 2014 on the licenced production of a modified chassis for the SPH.
HSW is supplying the Krab SPH to the Polish Armed Forces under agreements signed in 2016, 2022, and 2024. The first ‘Regina' divisional fire module entered service with Polish artillery in 2017. Hanwha Aerospace president and CEO Jaeil Son, who signed the 7 April agreement on behalf of his company, spoke of the success of the 120 units ordered under the first Krab contract in 2016 having demonstrated the integration of technologies from both sides.
On 23 December 2024 Poland's State Treasury-Armaments Agency signed a contract with HSW for four ‘Regina' divisional fire modules totalling 96 Krab SPHs for delivery in 2027–29. On the same occasion, a second contract was signed for components of 250 K9 SPHs.
HSW also supplied three Krab divisional modules totalling 54 SPHs to the Ukrainian Armed Forces in December 2024.
