The Indonesian Army is set to evaluate its first Harimau tracked armoured personnel carrier (APC) unit in 2026 with the view of establishing a formal procurement programme for the vehicle.
The matter was confirmed by a representative from state-owned defence company PT Pindad at the Indo Defence 2025 exhibition in Jakarta.
According to the representative, this APC is one of two evaluation units that have been procured by the Indonesian government under an agreement inked with Türkiye's FNSS in October 2024.
Under the agreement, one Harimau APC will be built by FNSS in Türkiye, with the other unit delivered to Bandung, Indonesia, in a semi-knocked-down state.
Indonesian engineers will assemble the second unit with assistance from FNSS, the representative said.
The Harimau APC is 30 tonne vehicle that shares the same chassis as the Harimau medium tank, which has been developed by PT Pindad and FNSS.
A mock-up of the APC was on display for the first time at Indo Defence 2025.
The Harimau tank is armed with a Cockerill Defence C3105 two-man turret system carrying a Cockerill 105 mm high-pressure gun. The turret is also equipped with a 7.62 mm co-axial machine gun.
Indonesia has thus far procured 18 units of the Harimau tank, and delivery for this programme was completed in October 2024.
The Harimau APC units that will be evaluated by the Indonesian Army will largely inherit the main characteristics of the Harimau tank but will instead be equipped with a remote-controlled weapon station incorporated with a 12.7 mm machine gun and electro-optical sensors.
