Israeli government approves Reshef corvette, JLTV procurement

Israel's Ministerial Procurement Committee has approved billions of shekels in procurement and force-building projects for the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), the Prime Minister's Office, the Ministry of Defense (MoD), and the Ministry of Finance announced in a joint statement on 24 November.
The statement identified two programmes that have been funded – the navy's new Reshef corvettes and the acquisition of hundreds of Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs) for the ground forces. Five Reshef-class corvettes will be built by Israel Shipyards to replace the Sa'ar 4.5 corvettes, which will be taken out of service after four decades, it said.
The procurement decisions were taken pursuant to the recommendations of the Nagel Committee, which was established in August under Brigadier General (Res) Jacob Nagel to review procurement and force building in the context of the ongoing conflict.
“The projects that were approved will now be transferred to the Joint Knesset Committee on the Security Budget for approval, after which the defence ministry will be able to move forward to the signing of the deals,” the statement said.
