Singapore's Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) has signed a contract with ST Engineering to procure an unspecified number of next-generation infantry fighting vehicles (IFVs) for the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), the company announced on 26 January.
It said the new IFVs will be based on the company's Terrex s5 8×8 armoured fighting platform and that deliveries of the vehicles are scheduled for “progressive delivery from 2028 onwards”. ST Engineering said the purchase contract was signed in December 2025.
ST Engineering also said it will partner with MINDEF and Singapore's Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) to equip the IFV with additional capabilities. ST Engineering did not disclose details about these capabilities.
However, in March 2025, Singapore Minister of Defence Ng Eng Hen said the new IFV will be equipped with a 30 mm cannon on its remote weapon station (RWS) and will be capable of countering unmanned aircraft systems.
ST Engineering said, “Built on the proven lineage of the Terrex family of IFVs, the vehicle offers cutting-edge capabilities, including digitalised systems for enhanced situational awareness and operational efficiency, cyber-secure generic vehicle architecture providing robust protection against cyber threats, and advanced vehicle electronics and enhanced firepower.
“This next-generation platform represents a significant leap in land defence technology, combining superior mobility, lethal firepower, and advanced survivability to meet the demands of modern warfare.”
