The modernisation of the Royal Netherlands Army's (RNLA's) Tactical Indoor Simulator (TACTIS) armoured vehicle training centre in Amersfoort under a contract signed by the Dutch Commando Materieel en IT (Materiel and IT Command: COMMIT) and Thales on 30 April takes into account the mid-life upgrade (MLU) of the service's CV9035NL infantry fighting vehicle (IFV).
Before signing the contract, Bernard Broudy, vice-president, Thales Training and Simulation, said, “The future training centre will equip the Dutch land forces and its international partners with cutting-edge simulation technologies”, including new digitalised combat vehicles. In his remarks before signing the contract, COMMIT commander Vice Admiral Jan Willem Hartman said new operational platforms would be integrated into TACTIS, starting with the CV9035NL MLU.
Major Gaston Anbergen, senior staff officer, modelling and simulation, in the Dutch Ministry of Defence, said the modernisation of TACTIS would take into account that the CV9035NL MLU entering service in 2026 has a different commander site than the existing vehicle, that its turret has been moved forward and its 7.62 mm co-axial machine gun is located outside the IFV, and that an active protection system will be installed.
TACTIS includes a CV90 combat compartment with dismounts, including the commander himself. Whereas soldiers have to dismount from the current version of the IFV to fire Gill anti-tank guided weapons (ATGMs), the CV9035NL MLU's Spike ATGMs will be fired from the vehicle itself, which the modernisation of the training centre will also have to take account of.
