Images of Thailand's Defence Technology Institute (DTI) handing over its 4×4 D-Tiger armoured tactical vehicle and an upgraded AAVP7A1 amphibious vehicle to the country's military at a ceremony have emerged on social media.

Images show the vehicles being delivered to the Royal Thai Marine Corps (RTMC) headquarters, which is under the command of the Royal Thai Navy (RTN), on 29 January at the Sattahip Naval Base, Chonburi province. A banner displayed at the ceremony said the vehicles will be operated by the RTN and the DTI.

According to the banner, the vehicles are integrated with weapons and enhanced communication systems. Janes assessment of the images suggests that both the vehicles are prototypes, which likely require further testing.

Unveiled at the Defense & Security 2022 show in Bangkok, the D-Tiger tactical vehicle prototype was jointly developed by the DTI and private-sector firm Chaiseri. The 12 tonne vehicle is based on Chaiseri's First Win multi-purpose vehicle (MPV).

The D-Tiger features ballistic protection of up to STANAG 4569 Level 2 and can carry up to 10 troops plus the driver. It can be fitted with a 7.62 mm machine gun or alternatively a small turret or a remote-controlled weapon station to enable a gunner to operate from under armour.

The delivery of the upgraded AAVP7A1 amphibious vehicle follows a prototype development contract that the DTI awarded Chaiseri in March 2022 worth THB40 million (USD1 million).
