The UK Ministry of Defence (MoD) posted a notice in December 2025 saying that it intended to grant a single supplier contract to Rheinmetall BAE Systems Land (RBSL) joint venture (JV) for the upcoming mid-life upgrade (MLU) of the British Army's Titan and Trojan (T2) armoured engineering vehicles.
The contract, announced to be worth GBP64.5 million (USD86.5 million) excluding value added tax (VAT), is to conduct the MLU over a period of seven years. Delivery will be in two phases: the first for design, development, and demonstration, and the second for manufacture and embodiment.
The MoD said the direct award of the contract to RBSL was justified “due to an absence of competition for technical reasons… As the Design Authority and the Original Equipment Manufacturer only RBSL can deliver the requirement and due to safety, interoperability, and capability risks there are no reasonable alternatives to those goods and services”.
The MoD said the earliest a contract would be signed would be 15 December 2026, with an estimated run time for the contract of 16 December 2026 to 31 December 2033.
