Milrem plans to deliver over 100 THeMIS unmanned ground vehicles (UGVs) to Ukraine starting at the end of 2025, Janes learnt during a visit by international journalists to the Estonian company in Tallinn on 22 September. They will join 15 THeMIS UGVs paid for by Germany already deployed in Ukraine, primarily in the support/cargo role, including ammunition supply, but also as an engineer vehicle, Colonel Paul Clayton (retd), Milremʼs director of industrial partnerships, told journalists.

The UGVs will be outfitted by Ukrainian equipment providers, according to Col Clayton, who commanded the UK contribution to NATO’s enhanced Forward Presence in Estonia and Poland in 2019–21. He cited as an example a THeMIS with a Buria remote weapon station (RWS) armed with a 40 mm automatic grenade launcher integrated onto it by Ukrainian defence technology company Frontline.

Clayton said Russia had placed a bounty for capturing a THeMIS UGV in Ukraine and had captured one, albeit with equipment stripped by battle damage.

Additional armour and radio packs will be installed in the new batch of THeMIS UGVs and retrofitted on those in Ukraine, Clayton added.
