Brazil starts construction of third Tamandaré-class frigate

Brazilian shipbuilder thyssenkrupp Estaleiro Brasil Sul (tkEBS) made the official first steel cut of Tamandaré-class Frigate F Cunha Moreira (F202) on 13 November.
Moreira is the third ship of a four-frigate buy of Tamandaré-class MEKO A-100MB multi-purpose combat frigates under the Brazilian Navy's Tamandaré-class Frigate Programme (PFCT).
The keel-laying of the 107.2 m-long F Cunha Moreira combat ship displacing 3,455 tonnes, is scheduled to take place in July 2025, the launch in July 2026, and commissioning by Surface Force Command in February 2028, the Directorate of Navy Programs Management (DGePM) told Janes on 21 June in an interview.
tkEBS is also building the initial two Tamandaré-class frigates F Tamandaré (F200) and F Jerônimo de Albuquerque (F201) with commissioning by the Brazilian Navy scheduled for December 2025 and February 2027 respectively, the DGePM said.

Launch of the fourth and last ship F Mariz e Barros (F203) is scheduled to take place in November 2027 for commissioning in February 2029.
Brazil also is eyeing to later acquire another four frigates, the DGePM told Janes.
