Brazil's EMGEPRON, TideWise set to build new MCM USV

Brazil's state-owned company Empresa Gerencial de Projetos Navais (EMGEPRON) and local unmanned surface vehicle (USV) specialist TideWise in the coming weeks plan to begin building the Suppressor 7 multi-purpose USV, EMGEPRONʼs business development adviser André Gabriel Sochaczewski told Janes .
With the Suppressor 7, EMGEPRON and TideWise are eyeing a Brazilian Navy requirement for a USV system capable of mine-countermeasures (MCM) and harbour patrol missions, Janes has been told.
TideWise was awarded a BRL18.3 million (USD3.4 million) contract by EMGEPRON in February 2024 to develop and build the Suppressor 7 and deliver a deployable command-and-control (C2) station.
The launch of the USV is scheduled for August 2026 and commissioning in April 2027 after trials are completed, Sochaczewski said.
The USV is to be built with naval-grade aluminium; measure 7.4 m long and 2.4 m wide; and have a top speed of 24 kt, a range of 490 n miles, and a displacement of 4,700 kg. It is to operate remotely and in an autonomous mode.
It is principally equipped with an automatic fire extinguishing system, an automatic identification system (AIS), a hull-mounted multibeam sonar, a quick connection single point system, an automatic launch and recovery system for underwater remotely operated vehicles, and an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) take-off and landing stabilised platform. Its propulsion suite will consist of two inboard diesel engines coupled to fixed pitch propellers (FPPs), according to EMGEPRON.
The remotely controlled foldable mast was designed to mount equipment including lighting, communications, and GPS antennas; a navigation radar; a pan-tilt-zoom camera; and light detection and ranging (LIDAR).
