Recent satellite imagery indicates that China has begun structural outfitting work on a new stealthy vessel that is under construction at the Guangzhou–Huangpu Shipyard in China.
The vessel is situated within a graving dock and appears to be about 65 m in overall length. It has a clearly discernible trimaran layout, with a central hull flanked by two smaller outriggers.
At the time of the most recent satellite imagery, much of the vessel's upper structure is coated in primer or protective covering.
The forward sections of the outriggers and the main hull appear largely complete, although the superstructure atop the main hull remains minimal and elongated with no evidence of a traditional deckhouse or full bridge installation.
These outriggers are positioned relatively far aft, suggesting a design intended to reduce hydrodynamic drag, and there are currently no obvious deck equipment, weapon fittings, or sensor masts.
This overall configuration is atypical of standard surface combatants, auxiliaries, or commercial hulls.
Based on what can be seen, several plausible explanations emerge.
One possibility is that this vessel is an experimental platform developed to test advanced hydrodynamic or stability concepts, particularly in relation to high‑speed or semi‑submersible operations.
Its trimaran form and unusually low‑profile superstructure would be consistent with efforts to reduce drag or radar cross‑section.
Another plausible interpretation is that it may serve as a testbed for emerging uncrewed or minimally crewed vessel concepts, given the absence of clear crew support spaces.
The long, flat deck might also support experimentation with modular payloads, unmanned systems integration, or new mission packages without committing to a full development programme.
